Episode 007 - A Special Tribute to Jack Tomalin
What a RUSH!!!
It was a Great Time celebrating this amazing artist with all of you! Thank you all So Much for Coming!!! :)
Jack Tomalin is another one of those names that has Always been synonymous with High Quality. Ultra-High Quality, in fact!
Paul and I thought it would be fitting to pay homage to the history of such a talented and generous 3D artist, who has stuck with us as a leader in the Platinum Club, which has grown into what is now the Daz + Membership - offering up his high-end kits at those incredibly low prices to help us get an amazing library of Great content assembled in a very short time.
These kits are truly stunning.
They usually also come with all of the various individual parts that are created to build the full kit, so that we can easily use them for purposes other than the intended piece, which is always a big plus.
Such a diverse selection of assets that have been produced over such a long time span - probably since the inception of Daz 3D itself!
About Jack Tomalin
Jack Tomalin’s journey into 3D digital art began with his fascination for the CGI effects in the television series Babylon 5. This iconic show ignited his passion for the field, especially after discovering he had access to the same software used by the series’ visual effects team on his second-hand Commodore Amiga 4000! With no formal training and limited resources, Jack taught himself the basics of 3D modelling through a laborious process of trial and error. His persistence paid off when he started to recreate detailed models from the show, with the Starfury ship becoming his first major project. Jack’s dedication to refining his craft is evident in the hundreds of hours spent perfecting this model over the years.
Jack’s early forays into 3D modelling, including features in Amiga Format magazine, fueled his confidence and led to a shift towards architecture-based models. While he continues to enjoy creating sci-fi content, Jack found that architectural models, particularly with a gothic influence, had broader appeal and became a significant focus of his work. His meticulous attention to detail is especially evident in his work on historical and atmospheric sets, such as his series based on the Titanic and the Baroque Grandeur interior. Jack’s ability to balance artistic passion with the practical demands of time and market appeal is a hallmark of his career, as seen in the creation of his successful and intricate 3D environments.
